On March 22, 2024, on the occasion of the International Day of Water Resources, the International Round Table "Water Security and Water Insecurity: UK-Ukraine Bridge".
The purpose of the event was to exchange experience in studying water resources problems from the perspective of environmental safety and danger, and to outline the prospects for creative cooperation between universities. This year, the slogan of the International Water Resources Day is: "Water is for peace", which is especially relevant for Ukraine.
The event was attended by scientists from the PMBSNU (Ukraine) and the Swansea University (UK), who presented the results of their own current and promising research. The round table was organized by Professor of the Ecology Department Olena Mitryasova. Alla Koval, vice-rector for scientific-pedagogical work and international cooperation, gave a welcoming speech, noting that such an event is one of the formats for implementing creative cooperation within the framework of the agreement between "twin universities".
The results of research on the assessment of the state of the surface waters of the Buh estuary were presented by the scientists of PMBSNU; the problem of the quality of drinking water supply in the city of Mykolaiv is outlined; the effect of heavy metals in the bottom sediments of the Buza estuary on some types of hydrobionts is presented.
British colleagues brought to the attention of the participants of the event an interesting experience of global and historical analysis of changes in the ecological environment in the world's lakes as a result of hydrological regulation. Current research on the application of algae biotechnology to improve water quality and disposal of agricultural production waste was also presented.
Such events are an effective platform for the implementation of creative initiatives and are extremely important not only for building bridges for further creative cooperation between universities, but are also important for student youth, as a unique opportunity to develop language competences, get acquainted with advanced environmental practices for the further green development of the country and sustainable development of society.
We hope that there will be more...
