"European Green Dimensions": EU Erasmus+ JM Project and Presentation of the International Monograph!

The Department of Ecology at Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University shares the achievements of the EU Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Chair "European Green Dimensions" project! This project, implemented from 2022 to 2025, has become a powerful step towards integrating European "green" policies into the Ukrainian educational and scientific space, even amidst the challenges of a full-scale war.

Recently, the significant International collective monograph "European Green Dimensions: Fundamental, Applied, and Industrial Aspects" was released. It is the result of fruitful cooperation between scientists from Ukraine and European countries. The monograph covers a wide range of "hot" topics for Ukraine's sustainable development and European integration, including:

  • The European Green Deal and its implications for Ukraine;

  • Adaptation to climate change;

  • Energy efficiency and renewable energy;

  • Green chemistry and nanotechnologies;

  • Water resources management, specifically water quality and wastewater treatment;

  • Issues of air quality monitoring and protection;

  • Waste management.

The project, led by Professor, Dr. of Pedagogical Sciences Olena Mitryasova, has achieved impressive results:

  • An educational and methodological package (programs, videos, presentations, textbook, etc.) has been developed and implemented for various target audiences.

  • International Summer Schools and roundtables have been held, significantly increasing the number of publications by our students and faculty in international journals.

  • An International Conference (June 5-7, 2025) was organized, fostering the creation of a strong international network of partners.

Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology, Candidate of Geological Sciences Viktor Smyrnov, an expert in industrial ecology and monitoring of water and soil resources, emphasized the importance of adapting European methodologies for assessing the ecological state of Ukraine's water resources. In particular, he highlighted the acute problem of sustainable water supply in Mykolaiv, caused by military actions, and the critical importance of drinking water quality monitoring.

"The future of the country is closely linked to the 'green' transformation, and it is precisely the youth who must become the driving force of these changes," says Dr. Olena Mitryasova, calling on young scientists and students to join international projects and believe in their abilities.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our esteemed Colleagues-Experts from Slovakia and Great Britain, whose active participation and extensive experience were invaluable for the successful implementation of the project. Your cooperation has become a vivid example of how international scientific partnership strengthens our efforts in building a sustainable future and promotes the harmonization of Ukrainian practices with European standards. Thank you for your significant contribution!

The project continues its development, planning to expand cooperation, improve educational programs, and promote "green" ideas.

To be continued...
