CHALLENGES FOR UKRAINE IN GREEN POLICY, AND PRACTICE DUE TO ASSOCIATION WITH THE EU

"CHALLENGES FOR UKRAINE IN GREEN POLICY AND PRACTICE DUE TO ASSOCIATION WITH THE EU" -
this topic was presented on April 30, 2025 to the participants of the Interdisciplinary Studies "European Green Dimensions". The event was held within the framework of the International Project, which is implemented at the Department of Ecology of Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University with the support of the EU Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Program.

The speaker of the meeting was Vadym Chvyr. The following issues were discussed that aroused interest among the general public, namely: the path to climate neutrality of Ukraine: challenges for Ukraine; "growth points" of Ukraine in the EU-EC; basic principles for reliable and successful "green" reconstruction; sectoral challenges and opportunities.

The issue of biodiversity restoration was separately highlighted. To achieve this goal, efforts should be made to expand protected areas by at least 20% of land and at least 10% of water through conservation and restoration over the next decade. This scenario includes various protection and use regimes, including high-level reserves and national parks, as well as Emerald Network lands with limited use.

The meeting concluded with the following thesis: “Ukraine can not only overcome the challenges of green transformation, but also become a driver of green development in Eastern Europe. All that is needed is the active involvement of business, the public, government and international partners.”
